A very late post about my trip to Batam, Indonesia, way back in early September last year. I have no excuse except that back then I was very occupied wasting a lot of time and time after time, I just got lazy and forgot. Despite so, I still remember my experiences there quite vividly. It was an exciting trip, really exciting. There were a lot of new experiences for me. A refreshing trip. Apparently, all of the trips I've been on has been very refreshing. Aha.
These collection of badly edited (and crooked) images should speak for itself. It wasn't exactly a vacation but more like a few days trial of living in the kampung of Belakang Padang - an island just off coast of mainland. The whole trip was exhilarating.
It's amazing how simple life is for the locals. Sure they're not as blessed as we are when it comes to technology and basically everything else but that is what that made this trip refreshing. At dinner, I don't see anyone taking out their phone to snap pictures of their meal. On the streets, I see no one taking pictures of their 'ootd' or some abstract image of whatever. But I see local boys rowing their sampan out, stripped half naked and jumped into the waters. And the meals I had... they were simple dishes but those dishes were some of the best tasting and most appetising meals I had in a long while.
If you ask me, I would love to live my life out there but I'd have to say no. Mama had a talk with some local guy and he said he would love to visit Singapore to have a holiday but he can't afford it. And Singapore is just a short ferry ride away and there's plenty of cheap hostels yet he can't afford it. I felt really bad for the locals... not being able to afford a lot of things. But somehow I feel as though they make the most out of what this majestic world has to offer than we do.
